Sheridan Barnes

Sheridan Barnes graduated from Miami University with a BA in Sociology and worked in Cincinnati as a social worker for 30 years, often in jobs serving children and families. She has been working as an Early Childhood Educator since moving to New Mexico in 2010 and has taken graduate courses in Early Childhood from NMSU and ENMU, as well as taking Teacher Certification classes at Santa Fe Community College. She studies Spanish in pursuit of lifelong learning and is motivated by yearly trips to Guatemala to learn from Mayan Wisdom Keepers. Her interests include music, especially hosting drum circles and playing the Native American flute. She also plays the harpsicle and is learning to play the ukulele, which is her primary focus in recent months. She enjoys anything involving nature, such as hiking, gardening and camping. Working at La Casita and in a Reggio inspired preschool have been a goals of her’s for a long time. She believes that children learn best in community with a child-led  emphasis on learning, hence her excitement in working for La Casita!
